I agree with Michael but find that the barrel type connector, for which I have the tool, makes an adequate mechanical connection. Solder does enhance that but is in this case not being relied upon as integral to the stability of the contact, simply enhancing and sealing it within an encapsulation of less reactive solder. Finally it is properly sealed in heat shrink, I like te marine heat shrink that melts to glue.

Works fine for me on many busses and many boats.
