I bought a used AT once, I think about $650 installed, lasted 4 years or so, but there were none of the separation/broken parts issues on mine. When that one finally died I had a highly regarded local rebuilder rebuild it for me. It did not go well. One of his complaints was about not being able to get parts. Especially valve body parts. The "kit" was not the problem.
