Subject: Temp covering for body panel rust rot
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed; delsp=yes

Hi folks,

My 90 Westy (automatic, 179k, northern Virginia) that I acquired a year ago (can't believe it's been a year already) has some significant seam rust in the usual places. The driver rocker panel from wheel to wheel (with a poorly attempted bondo repair from the PO), left and right quarter panels; have rust that has left 1-2" wide openings in the body along the panel seams. It probably won't be until the late fall this year when I look for and send it to a shop to have the panels cut out and replaced and then a full-body repaint (along with all the other minor body work it needs).

That being said, I'd like to ask what folks have done in the past, or think I should do to cover these openings for the next 1/2 a year to a) prevent further water from getting inside the body panels, and b) at least give a faint attempt at improving the appearance of the van.

Gregg 90 Westy (Blueberry)
