Get a 3/8 dia bolt and thread a nut about 1/2" onto it. Put the bushing on the end and tap it in flush.

Vanagon folk,

Got the old starter bushing out with a 7/16" tap but having a rough time installing the new one. Already dropped one into the bellhousing. Got a rag stuffed in the hole for my next attempt. I've filed a bevel on the leading edge and using a same sized socket/extension with the bushing taped to it.Can't get it more than a mm into the hole. hole is clean. I already lost my backup bushing so this is it.

Any tips or tricks?

John Meeks
