hi. it's a little goofy how VW mounts that part. The socket the unit plugs into , clips onto a black plastic bracket that looks like a double relay holder .. and probably 'was' sort of .. they must have had thousands of those left over ..and had to use them somewhere ....but that is what the control unit socket clips to the side of. Slips into a slot on the side of it.

Find anyone with any engine conversion and odds are huge that whoever did the conversion left that part still screwed into the body by two screws. I constantly see stuff left on engine conversion vans that have no purpose at all in the new installation. How people can do work like that I just don't get, but I see it all of the time. Every single subaru conversion I have ever seen has that bracket left on it, unless I did the conversion..pretty much anyway.

or ....get creative .. get whatever ..a block of firm foam ..wire-tie the control unit to it......glue it to the body or whatever.. just so it can't flop around . heck ....lay it on a piece of foam, and put a strap of plumbers tape over it, held down with two sheet metal screws.

it does not have to be upside down or anything. It's mounted standing up originally btw ...but it can be on it's side or anything. Just protect it from vibration, moisture , heat etc.

However from reading about replacing it, it said to mount it upside down in the bracket. I find NO bracket of any kind. Their is a black plastic socket at the bottom of the area where the idle assemly is but for the life of me I have not found any way to attach the idle control unit to hold it in place as stated in any liturture I have on mounting it. > > > > > > Any information will be appreciated. > > > > > > Chris >
