This comes from the days of brake drums being really expensive, thick and heavy and re-lining the brakes included matching the curve to the oversized diameter of the worn or cut drums. Now especially for cars it just refers to the curve or arch being repaired. Check the archives for previous posts on properly setting up the rear brakes and shimming the lower shoe rests to compensate for the aftermarket shoes not having the correct lining thickness.

Hi all.

This link for Raybestos "Professional Grade" brake shoes:

http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=297589

mentions "recoined". Googling recoined, this may be a Raybestos term but....

Anyone know if this process actually shapes, or arcs, the shoe to the drum?

IIRC, I installed these on my '81 but that was at least 2 years ago. I think the wear patterns indicated that the top 1/3 of shoes were contacting drums but I haven't looked in some time.

Maybe Raybestos changed their manufacturing process since then?

Neil.
