When you control a product from extraction from the earth to final delivery to the consumer, you control pricing (and profit). It's as simple as that. I remember the fake shortage of the 1970's when you had to line up for gas on even or odd numbered days, and stations often ran out. It was all a manipulation, and it's still going on. Remember Enron with electric power?

When they create their own shortages by scheduling maintenance at the beginning of the driving season, you know you are being ripped off. You folks in the Midwest and south are benefitting from the oil sands in Canada, and have an oversupply of crude oil.

Some of you lucky dogs will soon see $3 gas: http://www.npr.org/2012/05/18/152922360/pipeline-flip-turns-u-s-oil-world-upside-down

Interesting that 12 refineries all schedule maintenance at just the time when demand goes up for the summer. The BP refinery being hit by fire, well, things happen. mcneely
