I meant also to say that much of what I said applies also to the use of HTML or Rich Text to post, instead of plain text. In addition to a lot of bloat, it makes things infuriatingly difficult to read for digest users or people with mail readers that don't render HTML. Captain Nemo posted an example of what it looks like in the "Embarrassing" thread.

As policy this is a text-only list. However since recent mail systems have defaulted so overwhelmingly to HTML mail (Mama, Get the Hammer, There's a Fly on Baby's Nose...) it's likely to take a fair amount of technical handholding to get that sorted out; so I figure to get the tails under control first. At the moment that's my private judgment not reached in coordination with Ben, but since I'll probably get to do a fair amount of the handholding I don't expect it to change. But any of you Volks who know how to turn it off, please do. I'm sure Capt. Nemo will be happy to give you feedback on success. If your messages have a specified font then they're not plain text...

Yours, David
