1) The body cladding ("side skirts") were on most late model (88-91) Vanagons except Syncros and 'L' models (non-GL). Most of those are not auto Carat or not.

2) That appears to be an Overland/Eurospec 5-cyl conversion with the raised deck lid which they sell with the kit. Last I checked it was $5400 for the non-California kit. $7400 for Cali compliant package. Since all those conversions used the South African bellhousing and Overland did not sell an adapter plate for an auto, this vehicle is likely a manual trans.
