RS has packages of clip leads in three sizes, tiny with alligator clips, medium ditto, large with crocodile clips. You want the large ones. The boot on the clip extends over the end so it's protected from all side contacts. It's dead anyway unless the column switch is turned to START, but a ground then would likely fry something. There's a hose nearby the B+ stud that's handy to take a clove hitch around - oops, I'm thinking 2.1l. Anyway, you'll figure it out. Needs to be taped or tied both ends.

Starter has a double male for the control terminal, so you can move the 50 lead to the outboard side if necessary and clip to the inboard side by reaching through the space over the bell housing. My '89 White Star actually had wires connected to both sides of the starter terminal. I unplugged the extra one and never bothered to trace where it came out.

While you're in there - it's a freak occurrence but it's happened to me twice, with a Vanagon and a Fiat. The 50 wire slips off the terminal so it's just barely touching, and sometimes not quite touching. Easy fix if that's it, just be careful not to tighten the female terminal too much.

I leave that wire permanently rigged. I thought about rigging a pushbutton but decided it was too dangerous. This arrangement *looks* haphazard, but I have to reach down, lift the clip and press it against the stud to get any action.

Yrs, d
