So does that diode shown on P. 97.124 do?

Yes. I was referring to the diagram on the relay itself. I recall now about that part shunted in parallel being a resistor.

Apologies for taking up bandwidth with this. IIRC, I searched "relay 53" in the archives and over on thesamba. I should have varied up my search terms.
