There's quite a few of options out there. Do your homework by searching the list archives and on Samba. Get a feel for the pros and cons of each choice. Any upgrade will likely put you back somewhere between $5K to $10K. Start saving now. There's probably a lot of things on your van that are not powertrain related but need your attention. Make a list of these and start knocking them out now. Bodywork, brakes, electrical, and interior systems all come to mind. Make your van worth putting an upgrade into.
