Look at the bolts where the seat is attached to the van. Two on each side. Just loosen the rear bolts and remove the front ones. You will then be able to lift the bar up high enough to clear the heater cover. While the cover is off you can cut the cross piece to make things easier for next time.

I need to remove the rear heater cover in my Dove Blue '88GL. Is there a way to get that sucker out of there without taking the back seat out. The cover has been loosened from the floor, but I can't move it forward to clear the heater core because of a metal bar in front of it that is part of the seat mechanism. Anyway to get at it otherwise?
