The bearing hub caps pry off nicely with the right shaped pry bar. to make a perfect bearing race driver tool, take an old race of the same size as the one you want to drive in the hub, and grind it down on the outside until it just fits smoothly in the hub bore. then use that with a hammer for a race driver tool. Works perfectly. ( ! ..Don't drive the new race in backwards .. a guy working under my direction did that before I could stop him.. believer me , it's hard to get a race out that's been driven in backwards. REAL hard. lol. ) Front wheel bearings are another place I see on vanagons without enough grease in them .. say a few years after a front bearing job. Put some grease in the cap too. Just greasing the bearings alone is not enough. Some extra in the hub too. |
