Subject: 82' Diesel 1.6 NA Injector leakage
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1

Learning about Fuel Lines, Fires and Halon is Terrific. THANKS for minding the Newbies. This is still my first year with my 82.

We were ready to leave and go camp up at a beach front site at Assateague Island National Seashore, Maryland --- AND THEN

I see diesel fuel leakage at the base of the Injector.

The PO had installed fuel booster pump in the fuel line ahead of the injector pump, mounted on the rear engine well wall behind near the license tag. (Its actually a windshield fluid pump) He said it was to improve cold winter starts. It works. The diesel always starts easily anytime winter or summer. Runs well.

But diesel fuel seeps onto the bracket below the injector pump body. None of the fuel hoses or pressure tube connections is damp.

*1) Could seeping be from pushing fuel supply into the injector pump? *

Test one If I disconnect power to the booster pump, the engine starts, sputters and cannot run. So the booster must impede fuel flow.

Test two I disconnect the booster - reconnecting fuel supply line from the filter cannister to the injector pump. Seeping seems to have stopped.

2) *What do you all think of the booster pump? Just reconnect in winter if needed?* * * *3) Is there any concern need with the injector pump? Did the booster pump harm it?*
