Well then, I have to work with what I have.

A listee commended the Power Slots rotors* for the Vanagon fronts and they are not very expensive; nor are their brake pads.

I might throw a chunk of my next paycheck for upgraded rotors and pads up front if it is felt by the community that they are worth doing.

Is Bentley sufficient for R&Ring the front rotors and pads on an '84?

South African-ing the rear drums is a bit spendier.
