Subject: Dometic Fridge Flame Window. Reseal with Hi Temp RTV?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1

Hi all.

I'm trying to save a rather neglected and poorly treated, or serviced, Dometic 182. Other than some unusual things like the drain tube snapped off about 3" from the combustion box, the fridge appears to be in good shape. Paint is nice on rear, no corrosion.

The OEM seal at flame window leaks badly and has fallen apart.

I've applied hi temp red RTV between the "glass" and box. I may add some more to ends of metal bracket.

Did Dometic use a different gasket material between the glass and box because:

- it insulates the glass from getting heat damaged? - this gasket material can take more heat than the rubber gasket used elsewhere?

Is the material Asbestos?

Trying to anticipate if the RTV I used will fail, and/or the glass will get heat damaged.

Thanks for any insights or better ideas on sealing the flame window.

Neil.
