I recall an old Car and Driver test of a Dodge police car with steelies and the small "dog dish" hubcaps, a look they described as more "butch" than full wheel covers. When we bought our '87 two of the plastic wheel covers were cracked/broken so Santa brought me the small caps from Go Westy that year.  Butch it is.   Stephen

I can't answer that but they do seem to have a fashion cachet in certain circles.

My son was over yesterday, helping re-bleed the brakes and replace the DOT3 fluid we put in a few weeks ago with DOT4 fluid -- higher boiling point, it says here -- and he said that I should remove the plastic hub caps from my stock 14'' steel wheels because black steel wheels are the preferred look now among his crowd of off-roaders.

"Besides," he said, "it's more 'Road Warrior' that way."
