Looking here: http://faculty.ccp.edu/faculty/dreed/campingart/vanagon/87vanagonschmatics/simple87engine.gif I see the negative wire of several items connected to 6 of ECU. I will double check that there's continuity between each of these wires and 6 of ECU. I totally get what you're saying Mark; the ECU supplies the negative side of circuit.
