Dennis, one thing we were taught in aviation mechanic school that I think might apply here is - if a specified torque value nor a standard torque value is not available, then finger-tight-plus-a quarter-turn was the principle applied. None of this "tighten 'til you can't turn it no 'mo " stuff. A variant of that might be to "snug it up - then a quarter turn" where screw clamps are concerned. I think that is safe enough.
