Right of course. I recall mention of "residual pressure" checks in various VW Bentley manuals.

I guess the best one can do (as Jeff did) is bump the pump to get debris out. Or would there be any benefit to some how flushing the inlet of pump with a suitable cleaner then letting all drain out inlet?
