Dunno. *Seems* to me that backflushing as Jeff did would be the truly effective way, and that if the pump is pre-filled with solvent and kept full it would be pretty safe. A pocket of vapor won't ignite if it's over-rich (why you store gasoline cans with a little gas in the bottom, so they aren't live bombs). But that's me thinking, I don't have statistics to back it up in practice.
