Always try to avoid rocks, tree roots, etc. when off road. The BFG AT, LT195/75-14 tire meets the Vanagon specs and probably has the strongest puncture resistant sidewall of any small tire out there. And for an AT type tire they work well in snow and on the road.

Possibly very odd question, prompted by some words in "Oregon Desert Guide, 70 Hikes" by Andy Kerr. He writes, "These 'roads' are tough on tires. Modern tires are generally excellent against punctures but defenseless against sidewall-attacking rocks."

Do owners of 14'' wheels have any options -- other than avoiding rocks?
