I know it's too late, but for the record:

This isn't going to work except possibly on a very short wire (few inches). You might be able to strip a piece toward the end and then slice it off with a knife, then strip another piece farther back also toward the end, leaving you a bit of clear wire in the middle. But a knife is probably easier.
