Tight's a cup would be the State of Maine expression, though more commonly used with regard to e.g. wooden boats after they've been in the water a few days to "take up." And if your Vanagon ever leaks excessively when first launched, swimming underneath it with an upside-down coffee-can full of sawdust to dribble into the seams can be very helpful. Mighta helped that feller on Top Gear...
