As in the case of a crash and damage or bodily harm due to a faulty
part  or whatever. ...
They sure  might investigate and inspect the vehicle.

I have been hired by a lawyer to inspect a very mangled Austin Healy
3000 that two guys got killed in ..
It had been worked on in a shop prior to that.
They wanted to know if something happened like the throttle got jammed
or whatever, due to recently done work.
  Of course,  huge sums where involved. In cases like that they hire
somebody to see what's what , if they're smart.

in that case I had the police accident report, including tire pressures.
The accident was on a  rainy  New Years Day.   The tire pressures were
around 12 psi in most of the skinny non-radial tires.
And the interior of the car was gutted ..all jagged metal.
It sure looked like operator error and not a part or workmanship issue.

Point is though ...if people are smart they will at least check the
vehicle itself in such cases.
