I don't have the scientific aspect but cooler air is more dense and will allow more oxygen and rest of atmospheric gasses to flow thru due to being more densely packed. While we were racing and there was a significant temperature drop we had to go to a larger jet size to keep optimal air fuel ratio, cooler air more fuel = more power, so small we wont feel it in non performance rides but in a high performance application you'll feel it just a bit! The hotter the intake air, the less dispersed fuel it is capable of holding. Under normal circumstances I don't suppose we'd notice, but it could have an effect on performance.
