I replace old fuel hoses with the correct hoses and use the same sheathing as the original, and I use better, specific, fuel clamps than original also. For the many years I did not come across any 'gummy' substance yet. As it did not happen with the originals for the last twenty odd years. BTW, any of you who did not change it yet, it is time to do it now. You may call or make appointments for the three hour job, 425 773 4646 in the Seattle area. Zoltan
