Well, friends, the time has come. I can't cope any more with a vehicle that seems to break down every time I drive her, and Matilda is being retired. Going to the happy hunting grounds for old and infirm vanagons. I was about to (finally) register her in Canada, when she broke down yet again, and very sadly I'm giving up. (You know it's bad, when the tow truck operator shows up and regales you with his recollections of all the previous times he has towed your van. Of course you also know that means you live in a really small town...) ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Joy I know your pain, frustration and I know the not coping, was there for 1.5 years and it was an emotional and extremely depressing time for me and I know all the tow truck drivers in the Greater Toronto Area. I know the fear and the panicky feelings. I'd like to tell you not to give up but I don't know your situation. living on an island, especially one quite isolated is in itself difficult. I'm going to say it, only because I need to but ultimately it is up to you>>don't give up. I still get moments of complete non ability to cope and frequently I feel all alone and I've certainly destroyed my bank account but I just can't give up yet. Sometimes I have to make myself have a good sleep and put some space between me and Scooby. Sometimes I come back from a trip, exhausted, worn out and don't want anything more to do with van (which is now working great), but I give myself permission to be turned off for a day or two and then I'm happy again. Give yourself some space, wish you could find someone who could help you deal with the demands of owning a Vanagon. I know that I face your decision in about another year's time but I'm committed (I should be) to enjoying this period of my life, poor and all that goes with a demanding "mistress". Be sure that your decision is based on the correct thing to do for you at this time in your life. I'm a senior on a fixed taxable pension but I am so thrilled to have a shot of the culture that i missed back in the 60's. If you must, don't part out, doesn't sound like there is much of a market for parting it and you'll have to keep it someplace. I agree with what all are saying. Know that I feel your pain, wish I could help. You have made an impact on the vanagoners and I know all wish you well. Be sane whatever your decision. Zee

Zee that's ZedEE or DAIZEE aka gtadaizee
