Ditto on that - brakes do not have to be that big a deal. I do believe that many shops want to 'do everything' and sure .. rebuild both ends thoroughly and replace the master cylinder, and brake hoses say .. that sure adds up to a chunk of change.

And there are many ways to stretch the money out more appropriately and get the most gain for dollars invested on the first visit, etc. Then do more in a few months.

I don't know the facts in this case of course, but I wouldn't be surprised if 300 to 400 dollars in parts would go a long way. And I'm not advocating taking short cuts on brakes either.
