Hi all,

It looks like I've found a new home for Matilda, with someone on the list here. We're working out details, but it looks like he's going to fly up with a bag of tools, fix a few things, make sure she's roadworthy, and then drive her back home where there's no snow and ice and most of all no salt on the road and or blowing off the ocean. And then give her all the restoration she needs and "run her for as long as he keeps running," to paraphrase his email.

Even his wife approves! Clearly he has a most sensible wife.

So it looks like Matilda has many more years ahead of her, in a nice warm climate where she can relax in a good home! Thanks, everyone who made me realize that there were lots of folks who'd be willing to come get her and deal with getting her back to the US and then put lots of time into getting her back in shape.

My apologies to those who were interested in parts - but I'm much happier that she'll still be going strong, and won't be stripped of her organs and then have her bones crushed.

Meanwhile, as for me - I will admit that I'm kind of looking forward to finding myself a reliable little car that gets really good gas mileage, so I won't feel guilty about destroying the environment by driving places. I think another Prius may be in my future. And at some point I hope another vanagon will be in my future too, and I'll be back on the road and be able to visit all the great people I met when I was traveling in Matilda.

In the meantime, I hope you'll see Matilda once she's in her new home, too.

Joy
