4th and 5th are in the same place as a normal 3rd and 4th on a 4 speed. May need some adjustment but it should work.

Has anyone ever successfully installed a short shift adaptor in a vanagon 5 speed? I bought one from Gene Berg but when I installed it carefully, and I have installed one in a 4 speed before, I could not hit 4th or 5th gears. I tried moving the plate around with no luck. I did not try altering the linkage under the van. I called the folks a Berg and they admitted they didn't really know if it would work although they thought it should. I called Daryl at AA trans ax and he said he had never done one either. Before I send it back I thought I would pole the collective vanagon knowledge base. Anyone?
