Lobed those Stude's. At age 19- while in the Navy - I bought a 54 Stude Starliner. Loved that car. It was the cats' meow. Sold it when I got out of the service. Needed the money to go to school.

Regards Jags - I had a 72 powder blue XKE convertible with bumps on it's hood. Though I had the vehicle and drove it - I wasn't deep into vehicle then as I am now with the Vanagons. I missed a lot. Had to sell it when I fell on hard times. Sure hated to let it go. But I do remember some things - like the inboard mounted rear disk brakes, the three piece monocoupe construction, the dual cooling fans mounted mounted on the radiator, 6 forward speed manual transmission and the 12 cylinder engine with quad Stromberg carburetors. What a monster that was. Shop rates for maintenance were twice that of other cars at the time. Loved driving it. There was a favorite interstate interchange near home that had a 45 mph speed limit. At the right time of day, I loved to hit that sucker at 80 and breeze through just for the heck of it. Foolish looking back, but fun then. Enjoyed that machine. But that engine put out a whole lot of heat and leg space was cramped and poorly ventilated. The heat worked it's way in there. Winter wasn't bad, but in summer even with the top down it was hot on the legs and feet. Hated to let it go, but I did. ]

Fond of my Vanagons now, in the same way.

John
