Thanks for stopping in and helping with my well and with attaching my new engine to the tranny. The well is wonderful (though my SO left the water on all night to water part of the garden - no harm done, but not a good practice). My engine has lots of power, but still working out the bugs, down to timing and idle, some questionable hot starts, that sort of thing.
I meant to contact you for a return visit on your way back through Chicago but it looks like you followed 70 through St. Louis.
Last week, we had a visit from Juan and Stephanie (on Samba, not on here). They are on a shakedown trip to Chicago from San Fran. In September they leave for Argentina. They have an '89 like yours (with the early round headlights) but with a GoWesty 2.2 and no light-blue undercarriage....
I note that people from San Fran have different accents than certain persons from Boston...wicked!

Hi all;Home (a few days now) safe and sound. 36 days, 5 National Parks, innumeral National Forests and Recreation Areas, the majority of states, 10,270 miles, almost every twisty, U-turn, switchback, windy, max change of altitude, most beautiful and out of the way etc., etc., road a bunch of you could find on my drive, and a very happy camper.I want to thank all of you who communicated with me but especially Jim and his lovely wife in Erie (got your Vanagon out and running?), Skip in Elgin (glad the well is running clean, hope the bus is too!), Ken in Salt Lake City for a stay one way and directions when going the other, Dug in Rosedale (love the door in the closet), Scott in Mesa (how do you take 115 F day after day), Dean, you OlRivrRat, for many directions and interesting places, Ben T, sorry I missed ya and Pete you are close enough for maybe a long weekend.This is a wonderful country with every kind and type of terrain and scenery. We are blessed with many wonderful and helpful people also. Get your Vanagon out of the driveway and see as much as you can.There is an open driveway for ya just north of Boston if you are coming this way. Dave B.
