Regulator? I think the blue wire is connected internally to regulator. Google should show wiring diagrams of Bosch alternators.

Your regulator may be replaceable:

Have you checked voltage at alternator engine on, engine off?

There must be lots of info in the archives on basic alternator tests. :)

I have read that by the time the regulator or brushes need replacing, the alternator itself may need rebuilding sooner than later.
