The propane tanks that are out there now are made by the original
supplier of the tanks. I have replaced many of these in the past couple
of years since they are almost always extremely rusty at this point (on
the East Coast). What I have found is that in most cases the copper
lines need to be tweaked over toward the front of the van. I hate doing
this as I am always paranoid that I am going to tweak them to the point
where they are going to be kinked but so far I haven't had a problem
once the new tank is installed and I get it filled with propane.
I have had one out of the last several that I had a problem with the
stud that holds the tank in place not seeming to line up with the
mounting points. I wound up grinding the mounting tab slot until the
stud could work with it. Usually this is not an issue and they normally
line right up.
As with installing a a new part on an older van, you have to roll with
the punches. If I allowed it to stop me every time I got a part and
needed to do a small modification to make it work, I would never get
anything done. Instead I view it as a challenge. Anyone can unbolt a
part and bolt a new one in it's place. But a true mechanic does not let
obstacles stand in his way to getting a repair done quickly and
correctly. He remains flexible and improvises if need be. He views it
as a learning experience, so that the next time he is more prepared to
deal with a similar situation. If you have this attitude then you will
view working on your van as a teachable moment and benefit from it. If
you don't like that, then just take it to a mechanic and let them deal
with it. The choice is yours.

Ken Wilford

There is no wiggle room for the tank to move in or out on the studs. Seems to me all the valves and such are higher up on this tank vs the old. I don;t know how to post pictues here. Can anyone who has installed a new tank recently relay their experience or pictures to me. It should have been a simple R&R but turned into a (for me) PITA. Thanks for feedback.
