To save the paint I'd probably use a sharp plastic gasket remover and a heat gun with a wax and adhesive remover! Watch out for the paint fade to truly reveal itself from under the stripes. Velma had terrible paint fade. As well as the many brown& beige across the bottom and just above the recessed channel thru the full length she had some looked like some flying bird with either a sun or moon behind it??
