In a lot of the rest of the world, the vehicles we in the US know of as "Vanagon" or Bay Window, or Splittie, have been known as "Transporters" and were so labeled by the factory.

I've, in fact, got a couple of the VW "Transporter" emblems (just never put them on any of my fleet.)
