If you're doing a complete one, oil the flanges, lay on your generous bead and take up the screws only until you have a thickish gasket like the original. Let it cure like that and then take up a bit more on the screws. With luck the oil will keep the RTV from bonding to either side and you'll have a reusable gasket.

I used the even fancier copper-colored sensor-safe stuff when I did this but I'm sure the red will be fine.
