For most people south of Canada, the 3 vent version is highly appreciated. Material choices then depend on location. In high humidity locations >I< prefer to go with the synthetic. Elsewhere the cotton models are great. If you want more color choices than yellow, gray or tan, you'll also probably want to go with the synthetic.
