For the Vanagon the 2,500 rpm is usually the easiest. The idle test can be
challenged for HC and O2. The Dyno will test the cat for NOx and can also be
a problem with any modifications such as gearing or tire changes, over
advanced timing, raised compression etc. Of course since the water boxer
relies mostly on the Cat and O2 sensor for NOx reduction these parts
actually get tested. The idle and 2,500 rpm tests should be able to be
passed even with the cat missing.

The 86 and later vans were all 50 state versions. If all is well it will
pass. Being a Syncro they will only doe the idle and 2500 rpm test. No dyno.

I have a stock 1986 Syncro and I am wondering if it will or can be made to
pass the Cally emission test?
