Maybe I will even try the easiest thing first. Apparently not today (or the last couple).

Bus was down for a couple days with aforementioned problem. I went out and got a remote start switch (not a bad thing to have if I remember where I put it next time I need it) because I was pretty sure it was the switch. Connected it up with a little wrestling. Checked for neutral and e-brake on. Turned on the key, ran back, heard a quiet high whine, and hit the remote start. Nothing. Tried a couple times after checking connections etc.. Nothing. THEN I went and got a hammer and whacked the starter. Hit the remote and VROOOM, it lit right up. Reconnected the wiring correctly and tried the key. Starts right up (bet you probably knew that).

Boy, I wish I had tried that hammer first. It would have saved me time and money and got me on the road right away. It's not like I havn't ever done the ol' hammer slam before!

Oh well, lesson learned (I hope). I was so sure it was the switch.

I am assuming this means new starter. What do you folks thing about rebuilding an old starter?

Dave B.

|
