Well it IS all about impressing my friends. ;)

Yes. I get what you mean re: wave forms. e.g. if one doesn't understand that a properly functioning simple switch should show a proper square wave when switched on/off, then the tool is nearly useless to them.

The mechanic I spoke with said his version of Vantage had "tutorials" (my word) built in to the unit. He also mentioned that he had used his Vantage on an '84 to track down an intermittent miss so for pinpointing misfires, seems the version of Vantage he referred to was suitable for tracking misfire on a Digijet Vanagon.

I'll clarify with the mechanic what the actual model Vantage he was suggesting.
