Don't worry, the replacements will not last 86k miles! When it comes to suspension Vanagon owners are lucky. In 1997 I purchased a 1992 motorhome on a Ford chassis (E350 cutaway Class C) with 36,000 miles on. Before 40K it needed front ball joints and rear springs. The rear end started making noise, the gear oil turned to tar. And the fuel pump went in Florida day before Christmas eve. Tow, rental car, and close to a grand to get the pump replaced with the "new improved" version. Low mileage on older vehicles is not always a good thing.
