No need to beef up the bed. The 5th wheel hitches are design to distribute
the load across a large area.
But raising the 5th wheel suspension up would be extreme. The Doka bed is
at least 8-10 inches higher than the Dodge Ram I currently use to tow the
trailer. And the trailer should be raised about 3" just to line up even
with the Dodge...

You'd have to beef up the bed to take the 5th wheel anyway, why not raise it
up to the needed height at the same time? Weight could be a problem...
