You'll be back, I once thought the same thing as you. It's a great driver but a seriously inferior camper. Sold mine after three years when I was facing a $4000 transmission rebuild and bought a Westy again. Follow the ev-update list on Yahoo! Groups, you'll need it--the Norcold has its own special problems (electronic ignition).

Good luck!

Stuart '85 Westy, plus a '97 EVC, '84 Westy, '68 Westy in the past.

Folks:  My Vanagon pedigree is as good as most.  I've owned 4 different vanagons spanning from 1981 to 2012. In various configuration, I've owned air-cooled, water cooled, 2WD, 14" and 16" syncros, pop-tops, and high-tops, carburetors and fuel injected, flat-4 and Zetec engines.  I've owned CDN, French, & German spec vans.  I've owned one factory NEW and 3 used vans. I driven my vans in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordon, Syria, Turkey, Morocco, and most of Western Europe CDA & USA.  My 4 vans have spanned 3 wives! :-)

I've now sold my most recent van (16" Syncro Dehler/Reimo hightop camper) and I think(!) that I'm about done with T3s.  But, Never say Never!

I've now purchased a very nice, very clean 2002 Eurovan Winnebago camper.   I have some idea of the differences in the T3 and T4 having rented a T4 to drive a round Europe in 2006.  My wife will be a Visiting Scholar at the U of Arizona (Tuscon) so we will be spending most of the next 10 months in the SW USA.

So it may be Heresy, but I'm batting for the other team, and we'll see how things go.

My thanks to this List and the folks on the list, I have learned a great deal about vans, and I, and my vans, are better for that!  :-)  I'll lurk on this list for a while, as I might be able to offer some help on "my fridge wont light" or "canvas replacement tips", or the like.  Malcolm
