when I brought my current Westy home (about a 60 mile drive) it would barely get out of it;s own way. When I got it home I found the exact same thing-one wire was burned through at the cap. I replaced everything. Sad thing was (for the seller) he had just spent $800.00 on it a "VW Specialist" garage.
