I think the legality of tint depends on what state you are in.
I know that in some states it is illegal to tint the driver and
passenger windows, others allow it.
The fear of tint by law enforcement might be more about being able
to see what the driver and passenger are doing if stopped, I know I
would be a little uncomfortable approaching a vehicle that had all
windows tinted so that I could not see inside.
I do see 'mirror tints' on those giant rolling McMotorhomes and
they seem to get by unmolested by the police, so maybe they've
decided it is ok now.
Back in those same 70's. the Utah state troopers were especially
uptight about windows and vehicles. They opined that having a
dark tint on your windows was the same as admitting you were doing
something bad inside....And they really hated silver reflective
tint. They stopped one of my pals in his Bay Window westie,
passing through Utah, for having reflective film camper windows
on his van....pulled him and his GF out and patted them down (she
was a really stunning blonde), searched the whole van...and found
a small roach...of the smoking type...impounded his van, put them
both in jail. It cost him a bundle to get free and get his van
back...
Anyone remember the 'Bolder Tints' from the 70's? A 3-4"
strip of mylar
that was placed on the top of the winshield - usually with the
car name
in black. It looked silver from the outside, and you could see
though it
from the inside.
The previous owner of my van tinted the windows as well as a
strip across the top part of the windshield. It works well
on sunny days, but can be a little annoying on cloudy days
or at night,
Subject: Vanagon external sun visor?

Just returned to Ohio from a 5,500 mile trek to Missoula,
Mt. and misc. points in between. The Westy ran fine, only
complaint was the sun cooking us. Have had the side windows
tinted which helps. Have thought an external visor for the
windshield would help.......any thoughts?
Like the one for sale on the Samba, but the shipping is a
little prohibitive. Anyone know of any other sources, or
have one for sale that would fit an '84 Westy? Thanks

(while in Missoula got to pick up The Bus dvd, etc. and met
Damon. Great guy, good flick) :-)
