About using non-OEM ignition wires - I should have said that they still need to meet not only quality standards but also the resistance/foot (or per wire) specified by VW for their ignition design. That's the point of the carbon string - to introduce a resistance of several kilohms distributed along the length of the wire.

Also, thanks to my lack of editing, you can deposit your old wire in the department of redundancy department. ;-)
