For the archives:  I ended up cutting a slice into the connector so I could see.  Turns out there are two pins that prevent each wire connector from coming out.  You have to push your tools (I used small pieces of baling wire) in through the cutouts on the side of the connector nearest the switch and wiggle everything.  You can see the holes I mean in my photo:
